Umbria in a nustshell
Land of deep green, lush river valleys and round-body wines, every
corner of Umbria is just beautiful. Just turn-off any beaten track, and
you will find adventure! At the end of a long shady, countryside road,
you will find yourself on a thickly-lined path with tall trees joining
branches overhead and forming a natural, green vaulted ceiling.
The next corner will unveil an unexpected 16th century monastery with a
mysterious atmosphere, and with walls covered by splendid old paintings
and artefacts. Just wander around, and you will inevitably bump against
a medieval hill town which retained its original character in a
tenacious way, or an open-air flea market cuddly set at the feet of a
cathedral or of a palace, where you are offered rugs, paintings, bronze
statues, and ceramics, ranging from the most precious to the most
utilitarian, decorated with patterns in use for centuries.
Go on driving, and Orvieto will come your way and will offer you its
unparalleled panorama. Or enjoy the unique view Montefalco, the “Terrace
of Italy” offers you. Proceed to discover Assisi, Spoleto, Spello,
Bevagna, Foligno, Perugia, Todi, Gubbio and many more. Each and every
place will strike you with its own, peculiar fascination.
To complement your day trip, you can sit back in your car and revel in
the glories of the countryside, in and out of deep green woods, up and
down hills covered with vineyards and olive trees, and along the course
of winding rivers.
Then, at the end of your intensely active day , you can go back "home"
for a refreshing swim in your pool, grill your steak on your BBQ, and
slowly sip a chilled glass of excellent Italian wine; or you may opt to
eating out at one of the excellent restaurants scattered all over, and
dine “all’italiana”, with great wines, incomparable food, and warm
hospitality.
