Trevignano Romano in a nutshell
Situated on the shore of LAKE BRACCIANO, away from the smog of large cities and equidistantly Located between Rome (30 minutes) and the Mediterranean Sea beaches (25 minutes), Trevignano is a delightful former little fishermen and wine producers village, and is considered the pearl of the area . It is located in the heart of the green roman countryside, at the northern doorstep or the Capital, and at the cross roads between the three most important regions of Italy (Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria), which hold 60% of the country’s cultural, artistic and archaeological heritage.
Trevignano’s medieval historic centre and its Etruscan museum are the pride of the village. Long sunny beaches and tall shady trees frame Bracciano Lake, which is embraced by gentle round top hills, and protected north by majestic Mount Rocca Romana. This explains its uniquely sweet climate in every season. The golden wheat fields, the vivid rust brown fertile soil, and the infinite green nuances of the century-old trees, cuddly hug the limpid waters of Bracciano Lake. In 1998, because of its luxuriant vegetation and its typical fauna, the area of Trevignano Romano has been declared PROTECTED NATIONAL NATURAL PARK. Lake Bracciano is strictly protected against all sorts of pollution, as it is Rome’s main drinking water reservoir. It occupies an area of 57 km2, is 160 meters deep, and has a perimeter of 33 km.
Moreover, There is plenty to see in the immediate vicinity of the village: The fascinating “Pellegrini” quarter in medieval Viterbo and its lovely Pope’s Palace; Medieval Sutri, perched on the top of a tufa hill; the small medieval town of Bracciano with Prince Odescalchi Palace; the village of Canale Monterrano and its Etruscan remains; the natural hot water springs and Spa of Saturnia and Terme dei Papi, are only some of the many attractions in the ares.
And, most importantly, Rome and the Vatican City, with their fabulous museums, their renaissance and baroque architecture, their “piazzas” ornated with ancient artistic fountains, and their old, narrow, winding streets and their open air cafés, are there to be explored and savoured. And, last but by no means not least, Tuscany and Umbria with their invaluable artistic treasures, are at a very comfortable drive from Trevignano.
The village also bulges with pubs, restaurants and genuine pizza houses, who offer a romantic atmosphere and exquisite Italian foods and wines. To them, like almost everywhere else in Italy, EATING IS AN ART.
